Safety Certificate / RWC

A Safety Certificate, commonly known as a Roadworthy Certificate (RWC), is a legal requirement in Queensland before advertising a registered vehicle for sale. The Qld Department of Transport and Main Roads requires a safety certificate before registering a vehicle in Queensland, transferring ownership or reregistering a vehicle when rego has lapsed. At Southern Cross Mechanical we adhere to the strict Department of Transport inspection criteria. A safety inspection is not a guarantee of receiving a certificate. The fee set by the Transport Department is for the inspection only, when a vehicle passes an inspection the certificate is issued free of charge, this certificate will expire in 60 days or 2000klms of driving whichever occurs first. If a vehicle fails the inspection 14 days are given to carry out reported repairs and have a reinspection.

Pre-Purchase Inspections

We look at a vehicle with your best interest in mind. Firstly, if the vehicle has a Roadworthy Certificate (RWC) we check that all the RWC criteria have been fulfilled. Secondly, we look at the wear and tear on the vehicle and inform you of the mechanical requirements the vehicle may need both short and long term. It is important to note, not all mechanical items on a car are checked when a RWC is performed. Therefore, receiving a complete overview of the vehicles condition will enable you to make an informed decision to buy or not, and can also be a very helpful tool when negotiating a price. Our pre-purchase inspection will allow you take into consideration the expenses you may incur in the future.
